Stockwell and White Repeat in Late Model/Sportsmen Rookie Ziter Claims Street Stock Win/Brown in Warriors FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TR-80207-1 Barre, VT Braintree, Vermonts Kip Stockwell made good use of his Calkins/Pelletier Quick Lube 50 starting position Thursday night to run to a convincing win in the ACT Late Model main event. The veteran racer, who returned to the high banked, quarter-mile oval in 2007 after several years of competition with the former Busch North Series started fourth in the 24 car field. At the drop of the green flag Stockwell surged into second. He took the lead from Brooks Clark, who started on the outside of the front row, on the eighth circuit. Once at the head of the field Stockwell was not seriously challenged even following a pair of mid-race restarts. Both times former Thunder Road champion, Dave Whitcomb tried the outside line around Stockwell. Not finding the high groove to his liking, the Essex Jct, VT driver settled into the runner-up spot, a position he would not relinquish. Pole sitter, Rusty Berger from Williston, VT turned in a career best finish with a third. Winooski, VT driver Jerry Lesage was fourth and Barres Mike Beetle Bailey rounded out the top five. The divisions top three point men, Jamie Fisher, Dave Pembroke and Cris Michaud were mired back in the field with none cracking the top 15. In spite of their sub-par performances all three remain at the top of the standings. The long awaited return of multi-time ACT Tour Champion, Robbie Crouch from Tampa, FL was realized in Thursday nights Calkins/Pelletier Quick Lube 50. Crouch, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer prior to the start of the race season made his racing debut a few weeks ago at Maines Oxford Plains Speedway in the TD Banknorth 250. Thursdays event was his first at Thunder Road in a decade. He and Trampas Demers from Shelburne, VT were involved in a lap 29 incident which ended both of their nights early. Completing the top ten finishers were Shawn Fleury in sixth, John Donahue, Clark, Dwayne Lanphear and Pete Fecteau. The NAPA Tiger Sportsman divisions 35-lap Calkins/Pelletier Quick Lube event had an uncharacteristically rough start. A pair of multi-car incidents on the first circuit shook up the 26-car starting field and knocked at least one championship point contender out of the running for the night. Once the dust settled, Matt White from Northfield put his car out front and easily ran to his second victory of the season. Brendan Moodie from N Wolcott, VT finished second while Williamstown, Vermonts Justin Hart was third. Rounding out the top five finishers were Tom Therrien from Hinesburg, VT and Brookfield, Vermonts Chris Chambers, a sophomore competitor. Whites victory moves him into second in the standings while Joey Laquerre dropped to third after being involved in one of the early incidents and finishing 26th. Over the past several weeks, rookie driver Mike Ziter from Williamstown has been moving closer and closer to Victory Lane. Hes had two podium finishes in the past couple of weeks. Thursday, the first year competitor broke into the Winners Circle with a hard fought win over veteran Gary Mullen from Tunbridge, VT. David Greenslit of Waitsfield, VT was third, last weeks winner Davie Allen from N. Troy and Williamstowns Tommy Smith completed the top five finishers. Following the 25-lap feature, Lloyd Blakely, the point leader entering Thursdays Calkins/Pelletier Quick Lube event finds him in second place after spinning off the third turn into the Styrofoam barrier. He was not injured. In the always exciting PowerShift Warrior class, Chad Brown from Jeffersonville posted the win over Michael Gay of S Burlington, VT and Williamstowns Mike Ducey. James Dopp and Neal Foster completed the top five finishers. Bunker Hodgdon, the PowerShift Warrior point leader found a good share of his advantage whittled down following a 21st place finish out of the 21 starters in the divisions 15 lap feature. Accompanying the Calkins/Pelletier Quick Lube festivities was the Great North American Port-A-Potty Grand Prix. Each of Thunder Roads four division point leaders following the July 12 CARQUEST Governors Cup race were asked to construct a human powered rolling outhouse. Representing the ACT Late Models was Dave Pembroke, Nick Sweet was the NAPA Tiger Sportsmen participant, Allen Lumber Street Stock rookie, Bobby Therrien and Power Shift Warrior racer Bunker Hodgdon all unveiled their mounts during Thursdays intermission. As the fan favorite, Sweets entry, complete with picket fence, was presented with the Golden Plunger. Dave Pembrokes outhouse, which utilized a bicycle peddled by the driver in addition to bring pushed by his crew, broke the toilet paper finish line for the win. The Media Madness race, which drew 15 participants from as far away as Maine and Quebec to the Vermont speedplant, returned to the Nations Site of Excitement after several years. Maines Mike Twist, an editor at Speed51.com, a stock car racing web site, was victorious over local radio personality, TJ Michaels from FROGGY FM. Marc Patrick Roy from Quebec was third. Shawna Lidsky, the morning sports anchor at WCAX TV was fourth and Jesse Schloff from the Stowe Reporter, a weekly newspaper rounded out the top five. All of the Media Madness drivers raced in PowerShift Warrior cars. Thunder Road is back in action on Thursday, August 9 for the NAPA Auto Parts/Make-A-Wish Trophy Dash. Also on tap will be the annual Run-What-U-Brung Spectator Drags. Post time is 6:30 pm. Spectator gates open at 4:30. Adult admission is $9.00; kids (ages 6-12) are $3.00 while the Family Fare for any two adults and two kids is an affordable $18.00.
