Bellerose, Donahue Team Up at Oxford Plains Speedway
For Immediate Release ACT-100307-1
OXFORD, ME Champion stock car racer Tracie Bellerose of Gorham, NH will team up with Graniteville, VT driver John Donahue, sponsor National Guard, and team owner Kendell Roberts at the American-Canadian Tours season- ending New England Dodge Dealers 150 at Maines Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday. Bellerose is a former Track Champion at Thunder Road in Barre, VT, and owns a pair of feature victories in weekly competition at Oxford. Im really excited to have the opportunity to race with Kendell and John, and I love Oxford, Bellerose said. Kendell wanted to have both of his cars on the track this weekend, and he asked me if Id be interested in driving. You can guess how long it took me to make a decision! Bellerose made national headlines in 2000 by becoming one of the first women in stock car racing history to earn a track title in a headline class. Her championship came in the ultra-competitive Late Model division, where she has seven Thunder Road victories to her credit. Bellerose is also a three-time winner on the ACT Late Model Tour, and scored Oxford Plains Speedway victories in 1995 and 1996. Her driving career was derailed in August 2003 by a severe arm injury sustained in a crash. She made her return behind the wheel at Thunder Road in May. I can picture the groove at Oxford, but I havent raced there in six years, she said. I have confidence in Kendells group that the car will perform well, its just a matter of me getting comfortable and settling back into my role as a driver. Im just happy to be in the position Im in right now. Driving the #26 National Guard Ford Fusion, Donahue earned a 100-lap victory at Oxford in the L/A Harley- Davidson Challenge Series in June and took a $10,000 payday in the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road last month. He and Bellerose will square off against ACT Late Model Tour point leaders Jean-Paul Cyr, Scott Payea, Brent Dragon, and Randy Potter in the New England Dodge Dealers 150, as well as 2007 OPS Track Champion Travis Adams of Canton, ME. Also expected are young Joey Pole Polewarczyk, Maines own Ron Henry, and TD Banknorth 250 winner Rocket Roger Brown. Green flag racing action begins at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 6. Cyr Looking to Break ACT Championship Records at Oxford Plains Speedway
For Immediate Release ACT-100407-1
OXFORD, ME Stock car driver Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT is on the verge of breaking two all-time American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Championship records on Saturday at Maines Oxford Plains Speedway. Should Cyr finish 23rd or better in the season-ending New England Dodge Dealers 150 at the 3/8-mile oval track, he will clinch his fifth-straight ACT Late Model Tour title and seventh overall. Both marks would be new records across all ACT divisions dating back to 1979. Records are meant to be broken, and some day my records may be surpassed, said the driver of the #32 Ehlers RV/Sticks & Stuff Chevrolet, but it means a lot to be here right now. Cyrs current streak of four consecutive ACT Late Model Tour championships ties a record set by Williston, VT driver Brian Hoar in 1997-2000. The all-time record of six total ACT championship titles belongs to Tampa, FL native Robbie Crouch, who ruled the former ACT Pro Stock Tour in the 1980s and early 1990s. Cyrs ACT crowns have come in 1994, 1996, and each year since 2003. He leads cross-town Milton, VT rival Scott Payea by 75 points entering Saturdays finale. There is a certain responsibility the record-holders have; theyre the drivers everyone looks up to, Cyr explained. Its an honor for me to be in the position Im in. Five-straight championships will mean a lot to me if we can pull it off, but theres one record I really want to build on, and thats winning more races. Despite finishing in the top five in nine of his 12 starts in 2007, Cyr remains winless. His 18 career ACT Late Model Tour victories place him second behind Hoars 23. Cyrs last season without a victory was 2001. Payea could mathematically unseat Cyr should certain circumstances take place. The only plausible scenario includes Payea earning ten bonus points for leading the most laps in the New England Dodge Dealers 150 with Cyr leading none, Payea winning his qualifying heat and the main event, and Cyr finishing sixth or worse in his heat race and 24th or worse in the main event. The final championship margin in that case would be just a single point. Jean has been the man to beat for years, and I dont think thats going to stop at the final race, said Payea. Finishing second to Jean is like winning, theres no shame in it. Hes a great racer, and Im proud to even be this close to him in points. Were going to Oxford to try and win the race, and thats our only goal. Cyr and Payea will face tough competition at the New England Dodge Dealers 150 from Oxford Plains Speedway Champion Travis Adams, as well as ACT top dogs Brent Dragon, Randy Potter, Hoar, and 2007 TD Banknorth Oxford 250 winner Rocket Roger Brown. Oxford Plains Speedway is located on Route 26 in Oxford, ME. Racing begins at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 6.
