Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
weather at bristol kind of reminded me of march of 1993 when we had the super storm..... and atlanta was postponed for a week, only difference is that this race was event run without a hitch but it was bone cold and i feel sorry for people in the nose bleed section that braved the upper winds to boot.
the racing itself, it was a typical bristol, 13-20 yellows per race, nothing new there but there was some events that really burned me, brent sherman and stanton barrett, they were in 10<roughly> 10 accidents thru out the race, brent sherman finished the job after lap 400 when tony stewart bumped him and causing a spin, for crying out loud sherman was 13 LAPS DOWN, he had no bussiness to be on the low side what so ever, and there should be a rule in place that if you cause 2 accidents<solo or muliple cars> the 3rd accident you should be parked no questions asked. there is a league a racing league on the internet with openspeedway.net , and when you race in this league, we use a game called nascar racing 2003 by papyrus, and we have a rule saying that if we cause 2 accidents, we shall park, i dont see a problem with this at all, maybe nascar should have a rule simular to this.
THE BONEHEAD OF THE RACE AWARD is not gonna be given out this week because due to a fact this race was a mess from the start, there was too many boneheads this week, but if you say jeff gordon picking fights without taking off his helmet, then we shall give it to him then, on the subject of the hendrick camp, chad knuss had a return he would rather forget, lap 1 had the 48 car cut a tire and fell 2 laps down at the begining, the 48 car ended up 30th and 13 laps down
in the mist of the race comming to the end, last part off the race looked like a local enduro you would see at hudson speedway, with cars spinning, lappers in the way of the leaders that SHOULD HAVE GONE HIGH, i know its VERY LEGAL to hold your line but come on half of the lappers or lappers to be was way of the pace and changed the outcome of the race by 200%, lappers or lappers to be should have more consiteration for the leaders, which should be talked about in there next drivers meeting
as for the fines, sorry folks they dont cut the mustard anymore, 25 driver/car owner plus 25 grand is no longer the answer, if they parked jimmy spencer for upper cutting MR DOBERMAN PINCHER<kurt busch> for 1 week, why cant they park jeff gordon for 1 race? the reason is simple, nascar is scared to death about sponserships to there drivers cars and i dont think we will see another car parked for a week, BUT what they should do is DENY QUALIFYING for 1 week or 2 and that driver will start 43rd, for 2 weeks, this does have its draw backs because a 2 tire stop can throw this right out the window, but if i were to give the fines out, heres what it would be
jeff gordon putting hands on another driver = 1 lap penilty for that race and 43rd start for the next 2 races
brent sherman causing more than 3 spins/crashes = parked for the rest of the race, and a flogging by mr leperchan MR DARBY AND STONE COLD MIKE HELTON<joke on that one>
crew chief for martin truex swearing on national tv = ejection for 2 races since there would be kids listening to the scanners and the race on tv at hand
on a sad note AND A OFF CUP TOPIC......, paul dana IRL driver lost his life in a practice accident at homestead sunday morning, while the accident details are VERY sketchy, the accident itself is the worse i have seen in a long time, the mystery remains on why did it happen, i had watched the accident atleast 4-5 times and i found it very odd that there was a long lapse between carpenters car and dana car making contact, seeing the wreck for the last time this morning, i counted up to 12 secs between carpenters 1st contact into the wall, and the impact that took danas life....... 12 seconds people, that is nearly a half lap at homestead because the CUP cars turn laps nearly 28 seconds, and IRL very well might be near the 25 second bracket, thing is this, it would be very easy to say dana was totally out of line about not slowing down or his spotter did not do his job, but the facts will be revealed at a later time while IRL recontructs the accident... but if you asked me on what happened, it could be many things, 1. contact between the spotter and driver was non existant<radio truble> 2. spotter not giving dana enough time to respond, or dana himself not taking the proper precautions to yield for a accident, reasons might be never known,
well thats it for ramblings for the week of 3/27 , lets hope that next weeks racing will be better and safer this week.. till then take care
Scott, I agree with just about everything you said. First of all D.J. holding up Matt with a hand full of laps left, I'm sure the FORD camp was real happy with that BONEHEAD move. I don't think Kurt would have got him if he was'nt held up, who knows maybe. And as far as Jeffey boy he seems to forget about the lap before with Matt and about what he did to Rusty twice. Did Rusty go and take a cheap shot at him (NO). When a man has both arms out you don't take a cheap shot at him. If you want to fight, go out in the woods like we all did, end of story. As far as D.J., if (HE) was leading he would have been all over that radio, (tell his spotter to more him up) you know it. I'm glad to see Bobby and the 43 team have a good run, they seem to be turning the corner now and thats good. And your right you can't be swearing on T.V. so 2 weeks is good. And all that stuff at Atlanta about Bill Lester being the first black driver to try to make the show, leave the man alone ( Let the man race ). Don't keep bringing up his skin color. He's a racer and all racer try to make the show. Sorry it just burns me up that people have to label people. Oh your the first women, ect. Thay are all drivers (end of story). Richie.
Everything you don't like is the only reason I'm still watching this junk.
Bonehead of the race should go to Kenseth, wrong time to approach someone there skippy.
Do you really feel that a pissed off crew chief that used a little language should be fined? I don't, tell Fox to stay the hell off the channels then, they should be spanked by the FCC like they tried and did to Stern for much less. Again, wrong time and place for the media trying to get alittle too deep. Little Johnny's parents shouldn't let him listen if they don't want a dose of reality, the world isn't "awe shucks" all the time.

>>>>>>> well that is what happens when you go to networks that are nation wide, if john roberts wants to affiliate nascar and WWE in the same sentance, you mind as well drop the tv deals and go to PPV, this way if you want them to push fellow drivers, throw helmets and swear on the scanners, that might be an avenue....

>>>>> what surprised me the most that jeff gordon accually had the intestinal foratude to push someone,......... jimmy spencer with his fists, kevin harvick and his duel with biffle in victory lane at bristol, robby gordon drilling his helmet on MW's car.... were all delt with fines and points..... only spencer was parked... but i do agree with the 1st woman and 1st black issue..... it creates more pressure to everyone involved...... imagine if we got a 1st woman pres? the way nascar and IRL has delt with these topics... the woman pres will be in a stray jacket within 3 months in office....
Just a few of my thoughts on some of everyones points.
Jeff Gordon, take your helmet off if your gonna act like a tough guy. It just makes everyone that already thinks your a pansy think it even more.
Bono, should he be fined? Mixed views on this one. As Warren said if they dont want swearing on TV keep the mics out of there. But on the other hand it is the big time, and there's cameras and mic's and writers all around it's part of it and your getting paid to act like a proffesional not doing it for free at a Sat night short track anymore so...
Harvick and Busch. How bad do you think the powers that be were wishing Busch would be held up somehow allowing Harvick to get to him and send him into the spin cycle for the win. As much as Nascar trys to say they don't like that stuff.....they love that stuff.
The Paul Dana IRL tragedy. First off I want to say this is in no way a cheap shot at the late Mr Dana, but I was of the opinion that in some ways open wheel racing really had their stuff together over Nascar, such as safety, safety personel, track crew etc. But what is their requirements for Rookies or novices competing? I know Nascar requires rookies to prove to them that there ready to race on the speedways. Now maybe I'm talking out of turn a little here because I'm not knowledgeable enough about how the IRL Series does things but it just seems that some of these guys that are running in the Series really don't have strong racing backrounds as far as the driving side of things. Lets hope in their quest to have full fields of cars the IRL isn't overlooking this.
