Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
An estimated 45,000 fans in the stands. There were 28 Official lead changes in only 100-laps. Two NEXTEL Cup Series regulars went "Whelenwacking". A Tour Rookie nearly wins his first race.
What more can you say then once again the best race of the weekend.
Carl Edwards hopes to run again next season and Tony Stewart plans to run in September. I think NASCAR needs to have a meeting with Tony and some of his new "friends" prior to the next race. Loudon is hardly the place to play bumper tag. I also believe that Todd Bodine will be competing in September with the #50.
Fiery Crashes:
There seems to be alot of fiery crashes lately. This is an area that I believe NASCAR should be looking into. With all the new safety equipmnet it has become harder for a driver to get out of the car. Perhaps re-locating the fuel pump would help. This is just my opinion.
The Schedule:
With an increasing amount of tracks hosting "Open" shows, NASCAR needs to work on getting the schedule out SOONER. One instance that really stands out is the Open show at Seekonk . This event has a great pay-day, but could suffer due to the fact the Whelen Tour races 3 days later at Holland (NY) Speedway. To me any track that hosts an event should be asked to submit a date request following the race. Once again just my opinion.
Canaan (NH) Fair Open show:
Great to see another track host an Open event. While the pay-day was not the greatest, it could be another major event with some time and effort. One suggestion I have is to move the race to Saturday night. This way the Whelen Tour competitors would not need to worry about saving their car for the NEW Hampshire race. Also many more fans would be in the area for Sundays NEXTEL Cup race. It will be interesting to see if they host the event again in 2007. Was nice to see Bobby Grigas III take the win.
These are just some thoughts I have had, you may agree or disagree. I would love to hear what you think.
Thanx for reading. -WMT-
