Potter Wants to Break ACT New Winners Streak at Oxford
For Immediate Release ACT-080507-1
OXFORD, ME Parity has perhaps never been more prevalent in American-Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car racing than in 2007. After the first seven events of the ACT Late Model Tour championship schedule, no driver has been able to repeat as a race winner. In fact, four drivers have earned the first ACT victories of their careers in 2007, including Randy Potter of Groveton, NH. Potter dominated the season-opening New England Dodge Dealers 150 at Maines Oxford Plains Speedway in April, and will try to become the first multi-time winner of the season as the ACT Late Model Tour returns to the famous 3/8-mile oval for the previously rained-out Time Warner Cable 100 on Saturday. I cant wait to get back to Oxford this weekend, said Potter, whose P&R Excavating Services Chevrolet was one of 49 Late Model cars in the pit area during the first attempt at running the Time Warner Cable 100 on July 7. Our new Race Basics chassis is strong this year, especially at Oxford. Every time Ive gotten out of the car there Ive had a smile on my face. When the race was called for rain back in July, it was like canceling Christmas for this team, we were so disappointed. Considered by many as an underdog entering 2007, Potter has remained consistent since his April victory, and ranks second overall behind six-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT. Vermonters Scott Payea, Brent Dragon, and Brian Hoar hold positions three through five. All told, Potter has racked up three top-five and six top-ten finishes in his seven starts this year, and was impressive in the $150,000 TD Banknorth 250 at OPS last month. Potter, Cyr, and recent Seekonk (MA) Speedway winner Joey Pole Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH are among the favorites to win the Time Warner Cable 100, the eighth championship round for the ACT Late Model Tour, on Saturday at Oxford Plains Speedway at 6:30pm. The Time Warner Cable 100 is also the fourth of five events in the L/A Harley Davidson Challenge Series at OPS. ACTs Rocket Roger Brown leads the standings over fellow ACT driver David Avery and OPS regulars Ricky Rolfe and Doug Coombs. Oxford Plains Speedway is located on Route 26 in Oxford, ME. TD Banknorth 250 Champion Rocket Roger Brown Returning to Oxford Plains Speedway
For Immediate Release ACT-081007-1
OXFORD, ME Rocket Roger Brown made national headlines last month by winning the 34th Annual TD Banknorth 250 open-competition stock car classic at Maines Oxford Plains Speedway, and the Lancaster, NH ace is ready to pick up where he left off at the track in Saturdays Time Warner Cable 100 for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) championship series. The TD Banknorth 250 victory, worth more than $35,000, boosted Brown into the point lead for Oxfords L/A Harley Davidson Challenge series, a five-race championship for extra-distance races with a $5,000 purse for the season champion. Saturdays Time Warner Cable 100 is the fourth race in the series, and is the second of three ACT Late Model Tour events included on the schedule. Ive got kind of a lot riding on this race, explained Brown, 28. Were only two points out of fifth place on the Tour, were leading the Challenge points, and I want an ACT win before the year is over. I think well have a good day if we can qualify for the main event, but well have plenty of cars in the pits to get through first. Brown says that in order to win the Time Warner Cable 100, he will have to fend off some stiff competition from a host of veteran drivers and some of the young up-and-comers of northeastern Late Model racing at the historic 3/8-mile oval track. There are quite a few guys that have Oxford figured out, and Id like to think Im one of them, Brown said. But were going to see Ricky Rolfe and Travis Adams representing their home track at the front, and Randy Potter and Jean-Paul Cyr from ACT will be flying, too. It wouldnt surprise me if the young guys like Scott Payea and Joey Pole were up front, either. Rolfe and Adams each own a pair of track championships at Oxford Plains Speedway, and are currently first and second in standings. Potter won the ACT Late Model Tour season opener at OPS in April and ranks second overall behind six-time ACT champion Cyr. Payea finished third behind Brown and Oxford regular Dale Verrill in the TD Banknorth 250, and 18 year-old Joey Pole Polewarczyk, Jr. earned his first career ACT victory at Seekonk (MA) Speedway last weekend. The Time Warner Cable 100 was originally scheduled to be run on July 7, but was postponed by rainfall to Saturday, August 11 and is now the eighth championship round for the ACT Late Model Tour in 2007. Green flag racing action begins at 6:30pm. Oxford Plains Speedway is located on Route 26 in Oxford, ME.
