Stockwell Back-to-Back at Thunder Road

For Immediate Release                            TR-080907-1

BARRE, VT Braintree stock car racer Kip Stockwell made it back-to-back main event victories at
Barres Thunder Road, taking Thursdays 50-lap NAPA Auto Parts/Make-A-Wish Trophy Dash for the American-
Canadian Tour Late Model division.  Stockwell steadily held off the challenges of Granitvilles John
Donahue and Shawn Fleury of Middlesex for his third win of the season.
I dream at night about winning at Thunder Road, said an emotional Stockwell as he climbed out of
his Sabil & Sons/Stockwells Garage Chevrolet.  I love this place, and the last two weeks have been
unbelievable.
Fleurys dramatic charge at Stockwells lead was interrupted first by Donahues strong inside-lane
bid for second place, then by a bout with the frontstretch wall with less than two laps remaining.  Fleury
held on to finish third behind Donahue.
Jamie Hurricane Fisher of Shelburne stormed up the outside lane to finish in fourth place ahead of
Wolcotts Marcel Gravel.  Cris Michaud, Eric Williams, rookie Chip Grenier, Dave Pembroke, and Dave
Whitcomb rounded out the unofficial top ten finishers in order.  With three championship events remaining,
Fisher unofficially leads Pembroke in point standings, 773-756.  Michaud is one point back at 755.
Rookie Kyle Tatro of Hyde Park earned his first career NAPA Tiger Sportsman victory in an
abbreviated feature race.  The Sportsman were originally scheduled to run 35 laps, but after a slew of
early yellow flags the event was brought to a stop after eight laps and the drivers were sent to the pit
area.  After receiving direction from Thunder Road Race Director Tom Curley and Director of Competition
Dean Gallison, the Sportsman cars finished their event after the Street Stock and Junkyard Warrior features
were run.
In the second try, which was trimmed to just 25 laps, Tatro breezed to the win over Northfields Jeff
French and hometown rookie Shawn Sicard.  Rick Garand of Middlesex and rookie Joel Hodgdon rounded out the
unofficial top five finishers.
Tim Campbell of Topsham won the 25-lap Allen Lumber Street Stock main event for his first victory
of the season.  Campbell dominated the race for his third career win in the division.  Gary Mullen of
Tunbridge finished second.  Dave LaFleche of Graniteville turned in a career-best performance in third
place.
Brett Pierce of Montpelier squeeked into his first career win in the Power Shift Online Junkyard
Warrior divison, beating Elmores David Whitcomb by inches at the finish line.  Brady Coburn of Barre
finished third.
Jim Gallison of Montpelier and Nick Jean of Williston were the winners in the Run-What-You-Brung
spectator races.  After a full-contact truck division final, Gallison drove his 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck
to victory lane.  Jean trounced the sedan field in a 1987 Buick Grand National.
Thunder Roads 48th season of exciting stock car racing continues next Thursday with VT ACE
Hardware Dealers Night.  Green flag racing action begins at 6:30pm.  General admission is just $9 for
adults, $3 for children (6-12), and just $18 for a family of any two adults and two children.  For more
information, call (802) 244-6963 or visit www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
