Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Here are some thoughts and views on the first races of the 2005 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season .
Race 1 - Thompson - After 125 laps the race came down to a photo finish between Ted Christopher and Zach Sylvester . Christopher was declared the race winner in an unpopular decision.
Eric Beers making his debut int the Ole' Blue #3 , had a terrible crash off turn four that would cause him to miss the next race.
Rookie driver Tyler Haydt finished eight .
A story of "Never give up" for the weekend has to be Jim Storace and the #47 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour team . The team was without heads for their motor late Thursday afternoon of Ice Breaker week, and driver Jims Storace and a crew member spent the entire day driving in Maine and New Hampshire in search . After finally finding a set in New Hampshire, they returned to Maine to have them machined , then headed to their engine builders to assemble the motor ,finishing around 2 A.M. They then returned to the teams shop in New Hampshire to install the motor and set-up the car . After discovering several problems with the motor the car was finally loaded into the borrowed trailer at about 10 A.M. The trailer problems are a whole different story. The team arrived at the track just as practice was beggining THE ONE AND ONLY HOUR OF PRACTICE.Having to go through NASCAR inspection before being allowed to take to the track , the team missed all of practice . The problems continued in Time Trials where a rocker problem forced Jim to turn very slow laps . Luckily the team was awarded a provisional starting spot, and after being up for more than 30 straight hours the team headed to the camper for some rest knowing the work was worth it. With help from several mebers of other Tour teams the problems where all corrected .Starting deep in the field Jim patiently waited for his pit stop to go racing . After the pit stop he was a driver on fire charging into the Top Ten . With only a handfull of laps remaing Jim had a driveshaft problem end his day . Stiill after coming from neraly last , to competing for a Top Five , the team was very happy with the results .
Oh , and just so you know , I was that crew member . WMT
46 cars were on hand .
