hello again folks, alot has happen in this last week, lets catch up
- Kurt Busch vs dale Sr ?
- how cold should it be not to race?
- a cat fight breakout at the races , well almost
- crew chief !ejected for 3 races is the penalty stiff enough?
plus more for this week
1st off let me say that the mod tour kicked off there season at the Thompson international speedway last weekend, weather was not promising at all Friday and Saturday but for Sunday it was picture perfect, before we get into Sunday we will recap Saturdays disaster, it was a very cool and raw Saturday afternoon, people in the Thompson area experienced everything from rain, frozen rain and all out snow for the 1st part of the day, once the rains and snow stopped the track was dried off they prediced to do some practice and a few features...... the modified tour ran there practice with some crazy results, 4 cars ended up on the hook after crashing in practice, 2 of them loaded up and went home, now heres the question, KNOWING the weather was going to be much better Sunday, why would you practice on a day like this?? i can see practicing at the bowl or the defunct riverside park speedway since there both quarter or a 1/3rd mile bullrings but a 5/8ths mile track is just flat out insane, someone could have gotten hurt Saturday, we would have been more better off if they would have ran the whole icebreaker on in 1 day.. then came Sunday, the racing there actually ran very quickly for all concerned, racing started shortly after 12 and got done by 6pm , the mod tour program was a wreck-fest, 125 laps with 7 yellows with 2 red flags and the 2 most serious accidents happened on the 49th and 101st laps, the 49th lap Jerry Marquis in the 4 car had "from what i heard so far" was a stuck throttle and pounded the 1st turn wall, Jerry was OK but the car was a total loss..... on the 101st lap the Thompson version of the BIG ONE happened, 10 cars wrecked and the track was blocked, mike Stefanik won this race and what a way to start the season.....
Kurt Busch vs Dale Sr? someone on wind tunnel said that there driving is very similar, you have to be kidding, 1st off dale owed up to his driving, Kurt Busch "makes up excuses" why he took someone out, this is not the 1st time that he "thought" the other car looked like it dropped a cylinder. in the 70s DW was nicknamed JAWS, 80s dale was called IRONHEAD or the INTIMNATOR but i have not found a name that fits Kurt Busch other than CHUMP, now that we see Busch's true colors come out 2 races to go in the chase last year, this year is no different, lets see which roush car he takes out next?
cat fight in the pits involving ladies??? well yes past weekend at Texas when Kurt Busch took out Greg biffle the ladies went at it, finger pointing and smack talk commenced, and i thought nascar was not sports entertainment??? i could be wrong, this could be a ground breaking thing, instead of helmets getting thrown at cars, or drivers jumping over pit boxes and push other drivers around, maybe we are about to see the ladies get more involved then in the past...... Kasey kahne won the race in rather convincing fashion over town Stewart, in off note Texas news, the headlines should have read "steve kinsers takes off again" for the second time in iroc series competition this year that kinser flips his car and walks away....
Saturdays Busch race at Texas seen a penalty go down where Matt Kenneth's crew chief got !ejected for a quarter panel infraction, Ive said this before, maybe 25 car owner and driver points is way to less of a penalty to give out, i have figured it out this way....... they want to take 25 points away that's fine but look at this, if you were to give a penalty of 25 points to a driver in 1986, the margin would have been a lap or 3 spots, well how about this, 1 lap these days is 10 to 15 spots or 50 60 points...... if the penalty would get stiffened up, maybe we wont see as many infractions as we do now
During the cup race there was a very touching tribute to Jack Artue Sr that passed away on Monday, born in IL mike joy went to school in the northeast and was a announcer for riverside park in the early 70s, Mike joy never forgot his roots and i was pleased to see that he mentioned the mods on TV, i know that some of the people in the USA never seen a mod tour race, but if your in this area, i would watch em........
With Easter weekend coming up, there will not be much racing going on, only the BGN race in Nashville is on tap..... well that's it for this week...... have a safe Easter!!!!!! till then
