Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Germain Racing announced Friday it will run a part-time Nextel Cup Series next season, fielding Toyota Camrys with driver Todd Bodine.
The team, which fields two Craftsman Truck Series teams this season, will run only in events next season in which NASCAR will use its new “Car of Tomorrow” design.
“We’re extremely excited to be joining the Nextel Cup Series and running in select races next year,” said team owner Bob Germain. “The fact that it's a completely new program will level the playing field a little and allow us to be more competitive.”
Bodine said earlier this month his team hoped to move to Cup if sponsorship could be found. Germain plans to continue to field its Truck teams.
Heading up the Germain Racing’s Cup program will be general manager Mike Hillman Sr. “This is a great opportunity for us here at Germain Racing to build our Cup program slowly. We want to bring the success of our truck program into our Cup program,” he said.
Germain Racing has obtained some associate sponsorship for its Cup program but is still actively seeking a primary sponsor. The "Car of Tomorrow" is expected to be utilized at the Cup series' short tracks and road courses.
